Die Tuishuise consists of 25restored Karoo cottages in Market Street, Cradock. Each cottage is decorated antiques and period prints to capture Settler living at the turn of the century. Recipient of the Simon van der Stel gold medal for restoration and the AA Heritage accommodation award in 1999, it is like stepping back in time. Built in 1848, this relaxed, Victorian-style hotel is 6 minutes' walk from the Schreiner House and museum.
Laid-back hotel rooms feature satellite TV, antiques and old-school wood furnishings. Individually themed, 1- to 4-bedroom cottages built in the 19th century range from elegant Victorian to English country in style, and offer kitchens and living areas. Some add fireplaces and/or 4-poster beds.
