Shapes of Africa was not long ago a few words spoken, a thought believed. And so it began … in the sugarcane fields of the rolling hills of Zululand… “Let’s build something” turned into a 11 year experience (2007-2018) – wow, look at us now! It all started with the collecting of the round rocks from the hardened clay earth for six weeks – to build the first Zulu rondavel. Created by the bare hands of the local Zulus from Ndwedwe, the second mud hut, dormitory style called the “Wakka Wakka” evolved. Wooden cabins were dragged up and down hills into place – Swallows Nest, Planespotting and The House of The Rising Sun …. And, finally, to the last painted hippie caravan….the rustic stay-over evolved. Come TO BE FREE at Shapes of Africa…to be you…to feel nature…to feel the vibe…Wooden walkways wind through wild indigenous gardens, embracing permaculture and companion planting principles. Sustaining energy and other natural resources where possible, it is our belief to live as lightly on Mother Earth, and as naturally as possible, in harmony with all creatures great and small – and eventually off the grid. A stone’s throw away from King Shaka International Airport…offering travellers, backpackers, businessmen and holiday makers – a unique rustic stay-over experience, serving tasty, wholesome, homemade traditional dishes and chili sauces. Cold beverages are always available and African blended coffees.
