The Cuckoo’s Nest Guest House is so called because of the beautiful cuckoo birds that frequent the area. There are seven which are endemic to the area (not all seen) especially the Red Chested Cuckoo, (Piet my Vrou) which can be heard calling at all hours in the summer months. The cuckoo never builds its own nest, but lays its eggs in other birds’ nests, so that the nest owner can look after the fledgling. The Blouberg Nature reserce has one of the largest breeding colonies of the Cape Vulture and is situated 90 km from Louis Trichardt, past Vivo.
